About Moldova

Shortly about Moldova

Located in the Eastern Europe, Moldova is a country with rich tourism potential, but still unknown. Bordered with Romania to the West and Ukraine to the North, South and East, this corner of earth deserves the status of a “corner of heaven”.

Moldova has a temperate climate. Due to the 4 seasons, the places and the architecture look different each time – the spring by the buds and flavors of flowers, the summer by the sweet rays of the sun and the charm of fruits, the autumn by the varicolored leaves and of course the flavor of grapes and the winter by the purity of snow. Each time the eye is charmed.

The stunning landscapes of Nistru, Prut and Răut rivers will take your breath away and will offer You the possibility to navigate them by boat or raft.

The originality and the unique flora and fauna have influenced the creation of nature, scientific and landscape reserves. The largest natural reservation is Pădurea Domnească (the Royal Forest)  and the most original (hydrological) – The Lower Prut( Prutul de Jos).

The pride of Moldova are the natural landscapes, in some places they are virgin and enigmatic, the historic sites and fortifications which bear the breath of history and the victorious battles, are the wineries which compete with the French cellars, are the churches and the monasteries are the churches and the monasteries that became places of exile and healing of the soul. Another pride of Moldova is the spirit of hospitality that is difficult to meet in any other countries of the world.

Throughout the history the territory of Moldova (between 1812-1918 with the name of Bessarabia, a province of Czarist Russian Empire) was a bridge from Europe’s Eastern border to the West and the Balkans. After the Russo-Turkish war of 1812, the Christian population of Turkish origin from Romanian Dobrogea and the population from Zaporozhye (Ukraine) were proposed to settle in Bessarabia, over the centuries today in Bugeac’s steppe we find Gagauzia (Gagauz Eri with the center in Comrat). Since 1994 Gagauzia is an autonomous territorial unit.

After the Second World War, Moldova is incorporated in the Soviet Union (1944-1991) and since the interwar period to Moldova’s territory was added Transnistria (Transnistrian Moldovan Republic, the administrative center is Tiraspol). After the armed conflict in 1992, Transnistrian authorities declared independence and the Moldovan authorities have lost control over this portion from East.

However after the proclamation of the independence Moldova has regained the beautiful traditions and customs of the past and will charm You with its culture and delicious national cuisine.
