Today, April 27 is marked the Flag Day in Moldova. The day of the state flag was established by the Parliament of Chisinau on 23 April 2010. Colors of our state flag was officially designated on April 27, 1990 by members of the first Parliament.

The state flag of the Republic of Moldova is a major official symbol of the Republic of Moldova’s sovereignty and independence. The flag of Moldova consists of a vertical tricolor of blue, yellow and red stripes. It is identical to the flag of Romania, in spite of that, a Moldovan national emblem is placed in the middle.  It represent a golden eagle holding a cross in its beak and an olive branch and a scepter in its claws. According to Gheorghe Vrabie, the author of the coat of arms, the golden eagle mirror the Latin origin of the people.  The chest of the eagle is protected by a shield where is shown a bison’s head that symbolized strength, independence and pride of the Moldovan nation.
